What do you do with 500 preschoolers plus their parents to celebrate the beginning of spring? Head out of Qingdao in droves to plant trees and fly kites in proper Chinese fashion of course.
My school loaded up hundreds of kids and parents into buses and drove out to Hongdao, a village area on the outskirts of Qingdao. We trampled onto a tree farm where we helped the kids plant trees about five feet apart, which makes me wonder if the owners of the farm just dig the trees up later and replant them, because they would all just die if they let them grow like that. Either way, it was a fun activity for the kids and parents.
I even got to help one of the teachers plant a tree.
When we had all finished, we loaded back up on the buses to make our way to a park along a river where we picnicked and helped the kids fly kites.
It was a good day, with lots of happy tired kids. Happy spring!
